The Division of General Internal Medicine is recruiting for an exciting opportunity for a physician that will be completing residency in 2027! This is a one-year role that is a clinically active position with patient care and direct teaching responsibilities comprising over half of the work week. The unique features of this position are: 1) the way in which resident and student education is heavily tied to patient care in a longitudinal fashion, and 2) the opportunities for leadership and advocacy on multiple levels.
This position has been designed to enhance independent teaching for residents and medical students, provide regular patient care opportunities, and offer protected time and mentorship for scholarship. It is a year of excellent preparation for a clinician-teacher position as well as GIM practice, or ambulatory oriented fellowship.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care, 3 half days/week
Education/Teaching, 3 half days/week
Precept residents 1 half day per week in parallel with the Resident Clinic Director
Educational/curriculum development, including Monday Morning Didactic sessions and the Monday “Noon Report”
Practice in-the-moment teaching with mentorship from the Resident CD during RGP session
Lead intern clinic orientation and immersion blocks, including a June bootcamp session, a full day of orientation, and chart review sessions with interns during their immersion blocks
Facilitate monthly Outpt Journal Club sessions
Central figure for promoting resident morale in the Lowry clinic environment
Mentored Scholarly Activity, 2 half days/week
Design and complete a mentored scholarly project by the end of the year
Present once a year at GIM grand rounds on topic of choice
Create a Teaching Portfolio (“Dossier”)
Leadership Development, 2 half days/week
Act as Associate Medical Director and Associate Resident Clinic Director for the clinic. Apprentice model to get on-the-job training for a future career in educational or administrative clinician leadership.
Primary mentor for R2s and R3s considering primary care or outpatient-based specialties.
Help to lead new initiatives/workflows for the clinic in conjunction with the clinic medical director and resident clinic director.
Co-facilitate RGP meeting with attendings
Opportunity to take part in network-wide initiatives/leadership roles
Partner with Clinic Education Director of QI to develop/implement initiatives to improve and reduce disparities in resident patient quality metrics
