The Forest Maintenance Worker role with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources lets you work outdoors, learn new skills, and support public enjoyment of natural spaces. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role focuses on maintaining forest facilities, trails, signs, and equipment across the Pondfield Division and other assigned areas. The work supports safe public use of state forests and helps keep essential infrastructure in good condition. As a Forest Maintenance Worker, you will perform the following duties:
- Sign Maintenance: Construct new signs and install them along trail systems
- Trail Clearing: Remove brush and fallen trees using both manual and motorized cutting tools
- Boundary Care: Clear, paint and maintain official State Forest boundary lines
- Facility Cleaning: Clean restrooms and pick up trash and debris
- Culvert Work: Install and maintain culverts and headwalls on roads and trails
- Seasonal Tasks: Plow and shovel snow in winter and mow grass during warmer months

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
- Work hours are as follows:
- Weeks 1 - 3: Monday – Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
- Week 4: Monday – Thursday 7:30 to 3:30 PM
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
