The multi-skilled trades/locksmith assistant will utilize a variety of specialized skills to fabricate, maintain, and repair the structural components of Marietta College and assist in maintaining the key system campus wide.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Fabricate or repair doors, windows, floors, ceilings, and other campus structures and grounds by sawing, cutting, planning, filing, bending, and drilling.
- Apply the principles of related crafts such as roofing, concrete placement, plastering, tile setting, and other trades need to maintain the campus.
- Use hand tools such as trowels, straight edges, plumb lines, wire cutters, etc.
- Repair and install drywall and finish small projects.
- Paint various classrooms, offices, doors, and outdoor projects on campus.
- Assist locksmith in maintaining the key system (Insta-Key System) for the security and safety of the campus.
- Learn the online operating system to maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of all keys, assignment of keys to personnel, lock hardware installations, keys issued to departments, and inventory of keys.
- Install new locks and door hardware as needed.
- Disassemble locks and replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts as needed.
- Repair and adjust door-mounted closures, maintain hinges, and all related door hardware.
- Follow purchasing guidelines to buy materials and/or tools and equipment.
- Assist other trades and unskilled workers as needed during peak periods e.g. graduation, periods of extreme weather situations, and unexpected situations impacting campus.
- Assist in moving, setup, and teardown of special events and permanent or temporary offices.
- Assist with snow and ice removal as needed during major snow events.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in the proper use of hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge to perform emergency repairs in several fields.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing, or electronically.
- Ability to effectively work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups without close supervision.
- Must be organized with the ability to prioritize work to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Must be able to use a computer to access email, work orders, and submit time for payroll processing.
Required Experience & Education:
- Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years' experience performing facilities trades as described above in an institutional or commercial setting and/or career center or trades school.
- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb a ladder frequently and work in tight spaces occasionally.
- Ability to use small power tools and hand tools.
- Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Sufficient physical dexterity to bend, stoop, and climb to perform the duties of the job.
Pay: $17.00 per hour
