Stone LLP is looking for an experienced legal assistant who can answer a phone, calm down an angry opposing counsel, calendar a deposition, and proofread a motion — sometimes all before lunch. If you've ever silently corrected someone's "it's" vs. "its" in a court filing and felt a small surge of pride, we should talk.
We're a respected business, construction, and real estate litigation firm, which means the work is substantive and the stakes are real — but we also believe a sharp sense of humor and a well-organized case file are not mutually exclusive. We take the law seriously. We don't take ourselves too seriously.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Fielding calls from clients, opposing counsel, and the courts — sometimes diplomatically, always professionally
- Calendaring court appearances, depositions, and meetings (missing a deadline is not an option here — we mean that)
- Supporting attorneys through every phase of litigation: pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial prep
- Keeping case files organized enough that you could find anything in them at 4:45pm on a Friday
- Drafting routine correspondence that doesn't read like it was written in a hurry (even when it was)
- Generating client invoices
- Filing documents with the court — correctly, and on time
- Managing inbound and outbound mail without losing anything important
What You Bring
- Associate's degree or paralegal certificate
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a legal assistant
- Comfort with Microsoft Windows and Office 365 — not just familiarity, but full-on mastery
- The ability to work independently, juggle priorities, and hit deadlines without someone standing over your shoulder
- Initiative — we'd rather you ask a good question than guess and get it wrong
- Excellent proofreading instincts: spelling, punctuation, diction, and style all matter here
- Sharp attention to detail and the follow-through to see things to completion
