Alternative Air is a locally owned and operated HVAC and plumbing company serving Manhattan and the surrounding Flint Hills area since 2009. We are looking for an experienced, motivated Residential HVAC & Plumbing Estimator to join our growing team.
This position will be responsible for meeting with residential customers, evaluating their HVAC and plumbing needs, preparing accurate estimates, and helping customers understand their options. The estimator will also assist with commercial estimating when needed and help coordinate parts and materials to keep projects moving efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Meet with residential customers to evaluate HVAC and plumbing needs.
- Inspect existing equipment and systems and determine appropriate replacement options.
- Prepare accurate, professional estimates and proposals for residential HVAC and plumbing projects.
- Explain equipment, replacement, and installation options clearly to customers.
- Follow up with customers on estimates and help convert approved estimates into scheduled work.
- Assist with commercial HVAC and plumbing estimates as needed.
- Work closely with technicians and office staff to ensure estimates are accurate and complete.
- Assist with ordering parts, equipment, and materials for upcoming jobs.
- Check on the status of ordered parts and materials and communicate delays or issues to the appropriate team members.
- Verify that materials and equipment needed for scheduled work are available.
- Review job requirements to help ensure technicians and installers have what they need before starting a project.
- Maintain accurate customer and estimate information.
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
- Stay current on HVAC and plumbing equipment, products, installation requirements, and industry practices.
- Other duties as needed to support the estimating and operations teams.
Qualifications
- Previous HVAC and/or plumbing experience preferred.
- Previous estimating, sales, service, or project coordination experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of residential HVAC systems and plumbing systems.
- Ability to read and understand equipment specifications and job requirements.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to accurately measure, calculate, and price materials and labor.
- Organized and able to manage multiple estimates and projects at the same time.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable using computers, tablets, estimating software, and email.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Ability to work independently while also working effectively with a team.
- Professional appearance and attitude.
- Must be dependable and able to follow through on commitments.
