Summary
The Oakville School District is seeking a dedicated and responsible Long Term Substitute Bus & Van Driver for the 2026/2027 school year. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school, as well as to various school-sponsored events. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to student safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses and vans to transport students to and from school and extracurricular activities.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
- Maintain accurate records of transportation schedules, student counts, and incidents.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and safety guidelines.
- Assist students in boarding and disembarking from the vehicle, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and students regarding transportation schedules and any changes.
- Manage student behavior on the bus or van, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
- Report any vehicle maintenance needs or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required by the school district.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating a school bus or van preferred.
- Clean driving record with no serious violations or accidents.
- Previous experience driving a school bus or van preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact positively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to manage student behavior and maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures related to student transportation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and late afternoons.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
