Are you dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen?
Kanga’s is looking for an experienced cook who can prepare fresh, consistent, family-friendly food while maintaining strong food-safety, cleanliness, and presentation standards.
We need a hardworking team member who follows recipes, manages multiple orders, keeps the kitchen organized, and takes pride in serving food that is hot, fresh, accurate, and attractively presented.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare, cook, assemble, and present Kanga’s café menu items according to approved recipes, portions, cooking times, and presentation standards
- Prepare items such as pizza, burgers, sliders, chicken tenders, wings, fries, hot dogs, pretzel bites, breakfast items, sandwiches, and party platters
- Complete daily preparation, portioning, thawing, labeling, date-marking, and station-stocking tasks
- Read order tickets carefully and manage multiple café, party, camp, and group orders efficiently
- Coordinate food timing with café staff, party hosts, and managers
- Check completed orders for accuracy, temperature, portion size, and presentation
- Follow proper cooking, cooling, reheating, holding, storage, allergen-awareness, and cross-contamination procedures
- Record temperatures, waste, and other required food-safety information
- Rotate products using first-in, first-out procedures and communicate shortages before items run out
- Receive, inspect, store, and organize food and supply deliveries when assigned
- Operate fryers, pizza ovens, convection ovens, warmers, refrigeration, dishwashing, and other approved equipment after completing training
- Wash dishes and clean and sanitize preparation areas, utensils, equipment, sinks, floors, storage areas, and food-contact surfaces
- Complete opening, closing, daily, and weekly kitchen checklists
- Report food-safety concerns, equipment problems, contamination, spills, injuries, or unsafe conditions immediately
- Support coworkers and assist with reasonable operational needs when food-safety responsibilities allow
What We’re Looking For
- Previous food-preparation or cooking experience in a restaurant, café, commercial kitchen, concession operation, catering business, school kitchen, or similar environment
- Ability to follow recipes, portion guides, order tickets, and food-safety procedures
- Strong organization, time-management, and multitasking skills
- Ability to remain calm and productive during busy periods
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Clear communication and strong teamwork
- Willingness to cook, clean, wash dishes, restock, and complete all routine kitchen duties
- Attention to food quality, order accuracy, cleanliness, and presentation
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, school breaks, and peak birthday-party periods
- Experience with fryers, pizza ovens, high-volume service, party food production, kitchen display systems, or inventory control is preferred.
Requirements
- Must meet the minimum age requirements for assigned kitchen equipment and duties
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Texas Food Handler certification within Kanga’s required timeframe
- Must operate equipment after completing required training
- Must follow all Kanga’s food-safety, sanitation, uniform, attendance, and conduct policies
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation
The position may require standing and walking for most of the shift; frequent bending, reaching, squatting, pushing, and pulling; repetitive motions; working around heat, steam, grease, sharp tools, refrigeration, cleaning products, and wet floors; and lifting or carrying approximately 40–50 pounds.
