Daughter's Neighborhood Italian, a new concept from Devillier Hospitality Group (owners of La Petite Grocery), is opening this fall in the historic Upperline space — a refined yet approachable Italian American restaurant rooted in heritage, family, and hospitality. We're looking for a Chef de Cuisine to help lead our kitchen from the ground up, working alongside an experienced ownership group with a proven track record.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of the opening team for one of the most highly anticipated restaurant openings in recent New Orleans history — and its future.
Our Values
Devillier Hospitality Group's work is guided by four core values: Hospitality, Craft, Integrity, and Growth. These values shape how we treat people, how we do the work, how we carry ourselves, and how we evolve — in every restaurant, every shift.
Our Mission
Daughter's Neighborhood Italian's mission is to welcome every guest, and treat every teammate, like family — through honest Italian American cooking, genuine hospitality, and a space that feels both lived-in and loved. We do this through food rooted in heritage and elevated through craft, service that is warm and attentive without pretension, and a team that shows up with pride, intention, and care — every shift.
The Role
As Chef de Cuisine, you'll help shape the kitchen's culture from day one — overseeing implementation of proven systems, hiring and developing the team, and bringing a new dining destination to life alongside ownership and leadership. You'll work closely with the Culinary Director to execute the culinary vision with precision and pride, to create an organized, disciplined kitchen where great food and great people thrive.
We're looking for a chef who leads by example, stays calm under pressure, values the standards over ego, and believes the best restaurants are built by strong teams — a hands-on leader who's comfortable on the floor, coaching cooks, and leading through service.
What You'll Do
- Work with the opening leadership team to hire, onboard, train, schedule, and develop BOH managers and hourly team members
- Lead all day-to-day kitchen operations, from pre-opening through service
- Oversee implementation of proven kitchen systems, organization, prep standards, and service procedures from La Petite Grocery
- Manage scheduling to run efficient opening and closing shifts, ensuring consistent execution of Daughter's menu and standards
- Collaborate with the Culinary Director on menu development, seasonal changes, and recipe standardization
- Manage kitchen operations within established budget targets — including food and labor cost — and prepare weekly Prime Cost reporting alongside FOH leadership
- Oversee ordering, inventory, and vendor relationships to maintain accuracy and tight cost control
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous learning
- Ensure sanitation, food safety, and cleanliness standards are upheld at all times
What We're Looking For
- 3-5+ years proven experience as a Sous Chef or Chef de Cuisine in a full-service, high-volume kitchen
- Opening experience is a plus, but not required
- Strong foundation in Italian cuisine and classical technique, or genuine passion for learning and executing Italian cooking at a high level
- Proven ability to build, mentor, and retain strong kitchen teams
- Highly organized with excellent communication and leadership skills
- Calm, steady presence under pressure, with a clear and direct communication style
- Available evenings, weekends, and holidays, with the stamina for long, active shifts (standing for extended periods; frequent lifting up to 50 lbs; working in varying kitchen temperatures)
Compensation & Benefits
$70,000–$80,000 based on experience, plus:
- The opportunity to be part of an exciting restaurant opening from day one
- Career growth within a growing hospitality group
- Medical, dental, vision, and supplemental life insurance
- Paid time off
- Staff meals and dining benefits
- A professional, supportive environment where high standards and teamwork go hand in hand
