Loudoun Montessori School is seeking a dependable, caring, and energetic Assistant Teacher to join our Pre-Primary classroom. Our Pre-Primary program serves young children approximately 16 months to 3 years old.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young children, is patient and nurturing, and understands that consistency and reliability are especially important at this age. This position also provides important afternoon and closing classroom coverage, so candidates must be able to consistently work the full 9:30 AM–6:30 PM schedule.
The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher to maintain a safe, calm, organized, and engaging Montessori environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Support the Lead Teacher with the daily classroom routine and Montessori activities.
- Interact warmly and respectfully with children and provide individual attention when needed.
- Engage children through stories, songs, art, movement, outdoor play, and age-appropriate activities.
- Assist children with meals, snacks, dressing, handwashing, toileting, and diaper changes.
- Supervise children carefully during classroom activities, playground time, meals, rest time, and transitions.
- Help children develop independence, appropriate social skills, and positive classroom routines.
- Prepare classroom materials and help maintain an organized Montessori environment.
- Assist with classroom cleaning and sanitizing, including tables, materials, eating areas, and other daily classroom responsibilities.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with teachers, administration, children, and families.
- Follow all school policies, safety procedures, and Virginia child care licensing requirements.
- Assist other classrooms when needed based on the operational needs of the school.
- Support the classroom or school during staff absences and schedule changes as directed by administration.
Our ideal candidate:
- Has previous experience working with toddlers or preschool-age children.
- Is patient, warm, energetic, and comfortable providing hands-on care to young children.
- Is dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance.
- Is comfortable with diapering and toileting responsibilities.
- Works well as part of a team and follows the Lead Teacher's direction.
- Is willing to learn and follow the Montessori philosophy and classroom practices.
- Can communicate clearly and professionally.
- Can actively supervise children indoors and outdoors and perform the physical responsibilities associated with caring for young children.
- Montessori or early childhood experience is preferred, but we are willing to consider a strong candidate with the right experience and attitude.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:30 AM–6:30 PM
