Duties
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene to promote dignity and comfort.
- Monitor patients’ health status by observing vital signs, recognizing changes, and reporting findings accurately to healthcare professionals.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with feeding when necessary.
- Support clients with mobility and transfers using proper techniques such as Hoyer lifts or patient transfer methods to ensure safety for both caregiver and client.
- Administer medications following prescribed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations for confidentiality and privacy.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and organizing living spaces.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, engaging clients in meaningful activities that enhance mental well-being, especially for those with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
- Assist with transportation for medical appointments or community outings, ensuring safe and timely arrival.
- Document care activities accurately in client records and communicate effectively with healthcare teams regarding patient progress or concerns.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, or in senior/geriatric care environments such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques, medication administration, first aid, CPR, and basic life support (BLS).
- Familiarity with specialized care such as Alzheimer’s care, memory care, hospice care, and dementia support strategies.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting and patient transfers safely.
- Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
- Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Valid certifications in first aid and CPR; additional certifications related to home health or hospice are a plus.
- Ability to work independently while following established care plans and protocols in home & community settings.
