Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Excavator / Heavy Equipment Operator to help complete site preparation and construction work on a commercial property in Winfield, Illinois.
The property has already undergone substantial clearing and tree removal. We are now looking for someone experienced who can help take the site through the next stages, including final clearing, stump/root removal, grading, building-pad preparation, parking-lot preparation, and placement/compaction of recycled asphalt millings and aggregate.
This is a hands-on position for someone who understands site work and can look at an engineering/site plan and help efficiently turn an existing cleared area into a properly graded and compacted building and parking area.
Responsibilities
- Operate excavator and other available heavy equipment
- Remove remaining stumps, roots, debris, and unsuitable material
- Fill and compact holes created during stump removal
- Rough and finish grade the site according to engineering plans
- Establish proper elevations and drainage
- Prepare subgrade for a building pad, driveway, and parking area
- Spread and grade stone, aggregate, and recycled asphalt millings
- Assist with preparation of a pad for a temporary/modular structure
- Work around existing fencing and site improvements
- Coordinate with owner, surveyor, engineer, and other contractors as necessary
- Identify soft or unsuitable areas requiring additional excavation or stabilization
- Maintain a clean and safe work area

- Drainage and elevation work
- Reading basic civil/site plans
Experience with commercial site development, road construction, parking lots, or excavation/grading is strongly preferred.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is more than simply an equipment operator. The ideal person has enough site-work experience to understand what needs to be done to take a recently cleared property and prepare it correctly for construction and parking.
You should be comfortable working independently, identifying problems in the field, and communicating directly with the property owner.
Immediate availability is preferred.
