Overview
On The Mend Veterinary Services is seeking an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician to join our ambulatory surgical practice as an independent contractor.
Our team travels to partner veterinary clinics, along the I-5 corridor from Tigard to Salem, to provide surgical services, so this position requires reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in a mobile practice environment.
Your expertise will help facilitate smooth operations in a fast-paced environment dedicated to animal health and well-being. This role is ideal for a confident, capable technician with strong clinical judgment who enjoys surgery, anesthesia, and working in a variety of hospital settings.
Duties
- Prepare animals for surgery by performing animal restraint, and safe animal handling.
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, including monitoring anesthesia, maintaining aseptic technique, and managing surgical instruments.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and post-operative monitoring, including vital signs, blood draws, and recovery oversight.
- Maintain detailed records of procedures, anesthesia logs, and patient histories using veterinary terminology and documentation standards.
- Manage and move veterinary equipment to suit ambulatory setup and breakdown
- Handle x-ray procedures with precision, ensuring accurate imaging while adhering to safety protocols for animals and staff.
Qualifications
- Certified Veterinary Technician with current licensure or certification in veterinary technology.
- Minimum 3 years of veterinary technician experience required
- Proven experience in veterinary critical care, animal husbandry, or surgical assistance within a veterinary setting.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques.
- Hands-on experience with animal catheterization, restraint techniques for dogs and other species, and laboratory procedures.
- Ability to handle animals confidently using dog & cat handling skills and animal restraint techniques.
- Excellent communication skills combined with a proactive attitude toward pet care and team collaboration and surgical success.
- Surgical experience strongly preferred
- Anesthesia experience strongly preferred
- Must be dependable, organized, and comfortable working independently
- Ability to travel to different clinic locations as needed
Compensation:
$30-$40 per hour, depending on experience, skill level, and surgical/anesthesia background.
