We are seeking a high-performing, assistant Managerto help lead our 15-room boutique wellness hotel and expanding all-inclusive retreat center in Julian, California. This role requires a uniquely skilled hospitality professional who excels equally in operations, financial oversight, sales, guest experience, staff leadership, and the continued growth of a wellness-driven business model.
This is a full-business leadership positionwithin a boutique environment that offers all-inclusive wellness experiences, multi-day retreats, spa services, curated dining, and high-touch guest care. This is a role for a strategic operatorwho understands the unique rhythm of boutique hospitality and the sophistication required to run a wellness-centered, experience-driven business.
The Scope of This Role
The General Manager holds responsibility for every active function of the hotel and retreat business, including:
- Full hotel operations
- Revenue and sales management
- Retreat coordination and execution
- Wellness programming support
- Spa and practitioner scheduling
- Dining and all-inclusive meal operations
- Retail oversight (gift shop, add-ons)
- Payroll and HR administration
- Financial reporting and inventory control
- Guest service excellence and service recovery
- Team leadership and performance improvement
- Property presentation and maintenance coordination
- Vendor and contractor management
This is a full-time, on-site leadership positionrequiring 60+ hours per week, with housing provided.
Core Responsibilities
Hotel & Retreat Operations
- Ensure flawless daily operations of all 15 guest rooms, common areas, retreat facilities, and wellness spaces.
- Oversee room turnovers, housekeeping quality, maintenance coordination, and property readiness.
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, safety, and hospitality.
- Support and coordinate multi-day retreat groups, arrival logistics, schedules, and guest needs.
All-Inclusive Wellness Business Growth
- Implement systems to optimize wellness retreat occupancy and guest satisfaction.
- Support growth through improved programming, better scheduling, staffing, and operational flow.
- Coordinate with ownership on development of new wellness services, packages, and offerings.
- Execute all-inclusive service delivery from check-in through departure, ensuring a seamless experience.
Revenue Management & Sales Strategy
- Adjust pricing, manage OTA channels, and optimize occupancy to maximize profitability.
- Track and grow revenue across:
- Room bookings
- Retreat packages
- Spa and wellness services
- Retail and add-ons
- Food and beverage (where applicable)
- Drive upsell programs and guest conversion for spa and wellness services.
Financial Oversight & Payroll Administration
- Oversee payroll accuracy, labor management, and budgeting.
- Manage vendor contracts, purchasing, inventory, and cost controls.
- Prepare weekly financial and operational reports for ownership.
Guest Excellence & Service Culture
- Lead a culture of hospitality defined by warmth, consistency, organization, and exceptional care.
- Handle guest escalations with professionalism, empathy, and confident resolution.
- Ensure the all-inclusive experience is delivered with refinement and attention to detail.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff across all departments:
- Guest services
- Housekeeping
- Wellness practitioners
- Retreat support staff
- Culinary (if applicable)
- Establish clear expectations, accountability systems, and service standards.
- Lead through example—hands-on, calm, organized, and solutions-oriented.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of hotel, resort, or wellness retreat management experience.
- Strong background in operations, revenue management, guest service, and staff leadership.
- Experience with multi-department oversight (spa, F&B, housekeeping, reservations).
- Proven ability to manage payroll, scheduling, budgets, and financial reporting.
- Excellent communication skills and professional presence.
- Highly organized and able to operate with high standards and clear procedures.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Must live on-site.
Preferred
- Experience in all-inclusive hotels, wellness resorts, or retreat centers.
- Familiarity with OTA strategy, PMS systems, and spa/wellness operations.
- Strong understanding of what high-touch service looks like in a boutique wellness environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- $55,000–$60,000 per year, depending on experience.
- On-site housing included(a major benefit in Julian).
