A leading public research institution is seeking an experienced Compensation & Classification Analyst to support a high-profile compensation and classification initiative. This project offers the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated Human Resources team on strategic compensation analysis, job architecture, market pricing, and organizational workforce initiatives.

The Compensation & Classification Analyst – Advanced Professional provides professional-level expertise and analytical support for job classification and compensation decisions. Working under general direction, this role partners with Human Resources professionals and organizational leaders to develop data-driven recommendations and ensure the integrity of compensation programs and processes.
This position leads discrete project workstreams including market pricing, compensation surveys, job evaluation activities, and advanced compensation analytics.
- Conduct comprehensive job analyses and evaluations.
- Assess position scope, complexity, and organizational impact.
- Recommend and document appropriate classification outcomes.
- Gather and synthesize information from managers and stakeholders to support classification decisions.
- Review, draft, and update job descriptions.
- Ensure duties, responsibilities, and minimum qualifications are accurately documented.
- Support consistency within established job architecture frameworks.
- Perform compensation benchmarking and market pricing activities.
- Conduct survey submissions, job matching, and market data analysis.
- Develop compensation recommendations supported by market research and internal equity considerations.
- Analyze compensation data and trends.
- Prepare reports related to pay progression, internal alignment, salary structures, and compa-ratios.
- Translate complex data into actionable insights for decision-makers.
- Assist with annual compensation planning activities.
- Develop and maintain planning tools, templates, and reporting resources.
- Validate calculations and support compensation administration processes.
- Maintain compensation-related data within HR systems.
- Perform audits and quality assurance reviews to ensure data accuracy.
- Support testing, troubleshooting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain process documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Create training materials and user guides.
- Support educational sessions for managers and HR partners.
- Promote consistent application of compensation policies and practices.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Statistics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible compensation and/or classification experience.
- Experience supporting compensation programs within a large or complex organization.
- Demonstrated experience conducting market pricing and compensation survey analysis.
- Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, and compensation analytics.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.
- Experience supporting salary planning and annual compensation cycle activities.
- Ability to present complex findings clearly to various audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in higher education, public sector, healthcare, or other complex organizations.
- Knowledge of job evaluation and classification methodologies.
- Experience supporting HRIS or compensation system testing and validation.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation or progress toward certification.
