Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual transmissions, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper cargo securing for transport.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, planning optimal delivery schedules while adhering to route driving protocols.
- Transport various types of freight, including hazardous materials and dangerous goods, following all hazardous materials regulations.
- Deliver goods to multiple locations, ensuring timely arrivals and maintaining excellent customer service throughout each interaction.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on tractor-trailers or specialized trucks like roll-off or dump trucks to verify safety and operational readiness.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, and delivery records in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Load and unload cargo at delivery sites, ensuring proper handling techniques to prevent damage or injury.
- Follow all safety protocols during cargo handling, especially when dealing with refrigerated trailers or hazardous materials.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and logistics teams to coordinate deliveries and resolve any issues promptly.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid CDL A license.
- Proficiency in operating manual transmission trucks and specialized vehicles such as flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards.
- Skilled in route planning using GPS navigation tools for efficient delivery scheduling.
- Ability to handle freight manually or with equipment like forklifts safely and efficiently.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record; experience with delivery driver roles preferred.
- Physical capability for manual handling tasks involved in load & unload operations; comfortable working with freight that may include dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling processes to ensure secure transportation of freight across diverse environments.
