Ascension Episcopal School is seeking a loving, energetic, and nurturing Toddler Teacher to guide and support children during an exciting stage of growth and discovery. The Toddler Teacher creates a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can explore, develop independence, build language skills, and learn through play.
The ideal candidate understands that toddlers learn best through hands-on experiences, movement, exploration, and loving relationships. This teacher will foster children's social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual development while partnering closely with families to support each child's growth.
Primary Responsibilities
Child Development & Learning
- Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for toddlers.
- Support children's emerging language, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Encourage curiosity, exploration, creativity, and problem-solving through play-based learning.
- Foster independence by helping children develop self-help skills such as feeding, handwashing, dressing, toileting readiness, and classroom routines.
- Introduce early literacy, language, math, science, music, and sensory experiences appropriate for toddlers.
- Celebrate and support developmental milestones while recognizing each child develops at their own pace.
- Partner with families to support children through the potty-training process by encouraging independence, maintaining consistent routines, celebrating progress, and providing a positive, patient approach to toileting readiness.
Classroom Environment
- Create a warm, welcoming, and engaging classroom where children feel safe, valued, and loved.
- Maintain consistent routines that help toddlers feel secure and successful.
- Use positive guidance techniques to help children develop self-regulation and appropriate social skills.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Ensure all classroom materials and learning centers are developmentally appropriate and inviting.
- Follow all licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and school policies.
Family Communication
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families through ongoing communication and partnership.
- Share information about children's daily experiences, developmental progress, and milestones.
- Support families as they navigate the unique joys and challenges of the toddler years.
- Welcome families into the classroom community and create positive home-school connections.
Collaboration & Professionalism
- Work collaboratively with teaching partners, administrators, and support staff.
- Participate in required professional development and staff meetings.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Support the mission, values, and Christian character of Ascension Episcopal School.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- CDA, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare center, school, church, or similar setting preferred.
- Knowledge of toddler development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
- Ability to meet all state licensing requirements for childcare employees.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently lift and carry children weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, stoop, and actively engage with children throughout the day.
- Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities, including playground supervision.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform routine classroom cleaning, sanitizing, and organization tasks.
