Zoo Camp Manager - Seasonal
LOCATION:
Columbian Park Zoo
HOURS:
Seasonal – Includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays (40 hours per week)
SALARY:
$14/hour
DESCRIPTION:
Incumbent assists with the supervision and operation of various camps and other programs for
Columbian Park Zoo. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining a safe, positive, and enjoyable
environment for all participants. Responsible for planning, implementing and presenting
educational programming for a variety of audiences, including animal handling and training.
Actively participate in the development of Zoo Camp curriculum. Assist in the promotion of
Zoo Camps and other Zoo initiatives. Assist in the interviewing, training, supervising and
coaching of camp counselors and interns. Lead seasonal staff and volunteers in planning and
preparing camp activities and programs. Maintain educational supply inventory, coordinate
use of resources, and assist in the requisition and acquisition of needed supplies. Assist with
the supervision of camp and program participants. Assist management with staff and camper
discipline. Dispense and track medication given to campers. Incumbent also performs routine
housekeeping and record-keeping duties, including compiling, filing and handling registration
materials. Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers and the public for purposes of
exchanging information. Attendance is an essential function of this position. Performs other
duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
21 years of age preferred, high school diploma or GED required. Previous volunteer work or
camp experience strongly preferred. Must possess a genuine liking for children. Certification
or ability to be certified in CPR/First Aid required. A working knowledge of zoo education
program goals and interpretation techniques is required in order to implement and run camp
and program activities. Knowledge of life science concepts and wildlife conservation issues is
