Golden State Finance Authority - Home Loan Assistance Program** Interviews will be in person only**Under immediate (Deputy Probation Officer I) or general (Deputy Probation Officer II) supervision, performs a wide variety of probation officer duties; conducts investigations; prepares reports and recommendations to the court related to sentencing of adult offenders and disposition of juvenile offenders; supervises a caseload of adult and/or juvenile offenders; provides counseling and guidance while enforcing the conditions of supervision; assists in coordinating programs; and performs related work as required.

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.Positions at the Deputy Probation Officer I level may perform some of these duties in a learning capacity.Performs case management services while ensuring adherence to conditions of supervision; facilitates rehabilitation by supervising, counseling, and monitoring adult and juvenile offenders under supervision; provides assessment referrals to appropriate programs for adults and juveniles; facilitates out-of-home placement/reunification services for juvenile offenders placed in out-of-home care; acts as a liaison between supervised people and their, families, and other individuals.Conducts investigations and field searches using accepted data collection methods to establish facts and draw valid conclusions; analyzes data including, but not limited to medical, social history, legal, and financial reports, as well as other documents.Prepares various court and case reports; provides court with a sentencing recommendation; prepares orders granting supervision.Interviews defendants, families, and other individuals to identify and evaluate various problems, to determine how each case is to be treated, to evaluate candidacy for supervision, custody, and guardianship, and to assess progress of each case; develops and implements case plans based on individual’s history and issues.Reviews, interprets, and applies a variety of laws and codes in developing recommendations for courts on appropriate case disposition and sentencing.Completes and files adult and juvenile violations of supervision.Makes presentations and/or testifies in court and other hearings regarding sentencing recommendations, supervision violations and termination, case disposition, and case related issues.Requests evaluations, refers, coordinates, and monitors participation in mental health, medical, substance abuse, community service, and related treatment and rehabilitation programs.Intervenes in crisis situations, counsels individuals and families, and makes referrals.Works closely with schools, treatment providers, community agencies, law enforcement, District Attorney and staff, client attorneys, other legal representation, and others during the course of supervision.Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, files, legal documents, correspondence, and records.Responds and triages after-hour emergencies involving adult and juvenile offenders.Transports detained juvenile offenders to the juvenile detention center and court hearings.Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle to transport supervised people and visit various County and meeting sites; maintain Board of State and Community Corrections Standards and Training for Corrections requirements physical ability, including mobility, physical strength, and stamina to respond to emergency situations and to perform assigned duties; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking and standing. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds as necessary to perform job functions.ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSEmployees work indoors and outdoors potentially at any hour of the day or night, and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, and hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public or private representatives in interpreting and enforcing the law and departmental policies and procedures. The duties of this class are performed in an environment with exposure to criminal offenders, mentally ill individuals, and persons potentially infected with communicable diseases. WORKING CONDITIONSMust be willing to work emergencies and on nights, weekends, and holidays. Must meet physical standards established at pre-employment, by the Board of State and Community Corrections Standards and Training for Corrections as well as ongoing peace officer requirements.CLASS CHARACTERISTICSDeputy Probation Officer I: This is the entry-level class in the Deputy Probation Officer series. Incumbents initially are given detailed supervision in learning the techniques of investigation, case management, and/or program work. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Deputy Probation Officer II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.Deputy Probation Officer II: This is the journey level class in the Deputy Probation Officer series responsible for performing the full range of assigned investigation and case management duties. Positions at this level are expected to work independently, and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Deputy Probation Officer III in that the latter is responsible for technical and functional direction of lower-level probation officers and staff, and/or for managing the more complex or highly sensitive cases.Positions in the Deputy Probation Officer class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the Deputy Probation Officer II level are normally filled by advancement from the Deputy Probation Officer I level; progression to the Deputy Probation Officer II level is subject to (I) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any required certifications; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) management affirmation that the incumbent is performing the full range of duties assigned to the class, and (iv) management approval for progression to the Deputy Probation Officer II level.SALARYDeputy Probation Officer I: $3708.41 - $4969.62 per monthDeputy Probation Officer II: $4096.39 - $5489.55 per monthDISASTER SERVICE WORKERIn addition to our everyday duties, we have an added responsibility to help in a declared disaster.
