Traveling Field Operations Trainer – Commercial Low Voltage Systems
Travel Required: 65–75% (Monday–Friday travel with overnight stays as needed)
Position Summary
CSI of the Southeast is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer & Field Training Specialist who is passionate about developing people and building technical expertise. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching, coaching, and mentoring others while helping technicians succeed in the field.
As our Technical Trainer, you will design and deliver engaging hands-on and classroom training for new and existing employees across commercial low voltage systems, including access control, CCTV, networking, structured cabling, and related technologies. You will travel throughout the United States to conduct training, provide field coaching, evaluate technician performance, and ensure our teams consistently deliver quality workmanship, follow company standards, and provide exceptional customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Travel to customer job sites and branch locations approximately 65–75% of the time.
- Provide classroom and hands-on field training to new and existing field technicians, as well as internal technical staff.
- Ride along with technicians to evaluate installation techniques, troubleshooting skills, customer interactions, and adherence to CSI standards.
- Conduct field assessments and provide constructive coaching to improve performance.
- Develop individualized training plans based on technician skill level.
- Train technicians on installation best practices, system commissioning, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure installations comply with manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and company quality expectations.
- Reinforce all company safety policies and safe work practices.
- Assist with onboarding and field orientation for newly hired technicians.
- Identify knowledge gaps and recommend additional training opportunities.
- Develop and maintain training materials, job aids, videos, and standard operating procedures.
- Partner with Operations Managers to improve technician performance and overall field quality.
- Maintain training documentation and progress reports.
- Support quality assurance initiatives by performing field audits and installation inspections.
- Stay current on new products, technologies, and manufacturer certifications.
- Serve as a technical resource for technicians experiencing complex installation or troubleshooting issues.
- Promote a positive, team-oriented culture while modeling CSI's core values.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial low voltage installation experience.
- Previous experience training, mentoring, or leading field technicians strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of commercial low voltage systems including: Structured Cabling, Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion Alarm Systems, Network Infrastructure
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt training methods to different learning styles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience leading technicians or serving as a mentor.
- Experience creating technical training materials or conducting classroom instruction.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work on lifts.
- Ability to crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent standing and walking on active construction sites.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
