POSITION SUMMARY: The Sheet Metal Programmer is primarily responsible for programming and optimizing the Amada EGB1303 Press Brake and Amada ENSIS 3015 AJ Fiber Laser to support efficient, high-quality sheet metal manufacturing. Secondary responsibilities include engineering documentation control, ERP and manufacturing data maintenance, work order traveler creation, and general manufacturing support. This position works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production to ensure products are manufacturable, documentation is accurate, and production schedules are achieved.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Laser & Press Brake Programming (Primary Responsibility)
- Program, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for the Amada EGB1303 Press Brake and Amada ENSIS 3015 AJ Fiber Laser.
- Create efficient laser nests, bend sequences, tooling selections, and flat patterns to maximize material utilization, machine utilization, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Verify program accuracy through simulation, first article support, and production feedback.
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, and fabrication issues to minimize downtime and improve productivity.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to improve manufacturability, reduce setup times, improve quality, and optimize production processes.
- Operate and program the company's laser marking and engraving equipment as required to support manufacturing operations.
- Support implementation of new products into production by developing manufacturing programs and process improvements.
Documentation Support (Secondary Responsibility)
- Produce certified electronic master (PDF) copies of controlled engineering drawings using SolidWorks, DraftSight, CADKey, and other approved software.
- Review engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, approvals, revision levels, and manufacturing callouts.
- Process certified master drawings for manufacturing release while maintaining revision control and organized electronic job folders.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure drawing feasibility and manufacturability.
- Maintain accurate ERP routing information, operational details, and manufacturing designations.
- Create, distribute, and maintain manufacturing work order travelers.
- Support Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) by updating manufacturing documentation, ERP data, and CNC programs as required.
General Manufacturing Support
- Provide general manufacturing and engineering support as required.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives involving programming, documentation, manufacturing processes, and workflow efficiency.
- Maintain organized electronic manufacturing records in accordance with company procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- US Persons only, per ITAR Regulations
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including laser cutting, forming, and press brake operations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications.
- Experience programming CNC laser cutting and press brake equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience running a sheet metal laser and press brake.
- Proficiency with CAD software, including SolidWorks; familiarity with DraftSight and CADKey preferred.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/MRP systems.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate manufacturing documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training or coursework in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, CAD, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience operating CNC sheet metal fabrication equipment, including laser cutting and/or press brake machines.
- Experience programming Amada CNC laser and/or press brake equipment required.
- Experience using Amada VPSS 4ie, Dr. ABE, or equivalent Amada programming software preferred.
- Experience using CAD software, preferably SolidWorks; familiarity with DraftSight and CADKey is a plus.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and engineering document control processes is a plus.
