Key responsibilities and highlights:
- Both new applicants and returning tutors are encouraged to apply for this role (previous experience is not required)
- Prepares for and facilitates group study sessions and recitations for students in one instructor’s course
  - This target course is designated by faculty, who must inherently want and plan for STEM-PASS for their course
  - It is preferred for the STEM-PASS tutor to sit in on class regularly to re-experience the material and current student expectations
  - Each target course usually has three sessions per week
- Some initial and ongoing (paid) training is likely to be required
- Communicates and meets with faculty as necessary to deliver quality student experience
- Must be able to attend a weekly team meeting (several different options will be available, and this will be communicated in advance of Advising Day so that those offered this role have opportunity to keep at least one of the meeting times free in their schedules!)
- This role requires reliability to keep scheduled hours for sessions, and often sitting in on class, but provides flexibility in when and where other (paid) preparation time is spent; it is ideal for primary employment
Position Structure:
- Will facilitate and prepare for 2 one-hour sessions per week
- Will attend most class times along with students, unless an alternate arrangement is made
- Will communicate regularly with faculty and STEM Center (director, student managers, and other personnel)

Critical Thinking/Problem Solving: A STEM tutor can develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by breaking down complex concepts for students, identifying gaps in their understanding, and helping them develop strategies to solve problems.

Oral/Written Communication: STEM tutors need to clearly explain complex ideas and concepts to students within tutoring sessions and in interactions with coworkers and STEM Center management. Tutors may be required to speak to classes, reach out to students, and represent the STEM Center at functions or events. Additionally, tutors may be required to send emails, make phone calls, or initiate other communication on behalf of the STEM Center. Lead tutors will also communicate more with faculty, staff, and other tutors.

Teamwork/Collaboration: STEM tutors can facilitate or assist with group study sessions and participate in other projects or initiatives to support the STEM Center. Lead tutors will need to work independently to meet goals in coordination with STEM Center staff and faculty, and may coordinate the efforts of other tutors in doing so.

Digital Technology: Tutors may create online resources, utilizing software or apps to visualize concepts, and must make extensive use of scheduling systems, MS Teams, and other software to perform essential functions of the job.

Leadership: In working with a variety of students, tutors have regular opportunity to thrive in changing environments, to identify and address complex problems, and to navigate ambiguity.

Professionalism/Work Ethic: By being punctual, prepared, and professional in their interactions with students, tutors can showcase a strong work ethic. They must also adhere to ethical guidelines and respect the confidentiality of their students.

Career Management: The STEM Center is a cocurricular opportunity to develop and showcase the ability to build success in others and specifically to teach or train others. Tutoring course material often builds additional competencies in those areas.

Global/Intercultural Fluency: To develop global and intercultural fluency, tutors often have opportunities to work with a diverse slate of Gannon students, learning, understanding, and adapting to academic and nonacademic facets of culture and communication.
