As an Access Specialist at Horizon, you will…
- Welcome clinic visitors and create an exceptional patient experience with every interaction
- Work in a fast-paced environment that frequently adapts to changing patient needs and industry standards, interacting with individuals seeking mental health and substance use treatment across the lifespan
- Address patient questions and provide clear guidance on the intake process, CCBHC services, and next steps in care
- Ensure all patients are enrolled in the patient portal, offering support and education as needed
- Monitor provider and clinician schedules in real time to support timely access to intake and follow-up appointments
- Identify scheduling gaps or inefficiencies and collaborate with the Access Coordinator to optimize patient access
- Assist in managing appointment flow, including cancellations, rescheduling, and waitlist utilization
- Utilize multiple electronic platforms, including the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other web-based systems, to support scheduling and operational workflows
- Support the day-to-day administrative needs of clinical and medical staff, including triaging scheduling and patient flow concerns
- Coordinate with Program Directors, Practice Managers, and administrative staff to address site-specific scheduling or operational issues
- Monitor patient experience and assist in addressing and resolving concerns or complaints in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain a working knowledge of service types and basic requirements needed to support billing and scheduling accuracy
- Respond promptly to interoffice communications requiring action
- Support follow-up tasks related to internal and external audits
- Participate in ongoing training and implementation of Horizon policies, procedures, and system updates
- Identify and communicate workflow challenges and contribute to process improvement efforts alongside leadership
- Use problem-solving skills to support clinic operations and maintain efficient patient flow
- Assist in reviewing reports and recognizing trends that may impact access to care
- Adapt quickly to real-time operational changes to ensure a well-organized and responsive clinic environment

What makes you a great candidate?
We can’t wait to learn more about you! Here are a few specifics of what you’ll need for the job:
- Associates degree in a human-services related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
OR
- 3 years of experience in healthcare or behavioral health required.
- Prior experience in scheduling, patient access, or healthcare operations strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to problem-solve and adapt quickly to changing operational needs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse patient populations in a positive and supportive manner.
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other systems preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and follow direction from leadership.
Location:
This position is located at 637 Davison Rd, Lockport, NY 14094. Must be willing to travel to other Horizon locations
Hours:
This position is full-time, Monday-Friday. Must have the ability to work evening hours if applicable.
Compensation
Horizon is consistently evaluating our compensation and benefit packages to ensure we remain competitive. This position starts at a salary of $59,000 - $64,000 annually. Starting pay may be impacted based on experience and education. Compensation adjustments are evaluated annually.
This position entails eligibility for a sign-on bonus of up to $1,500 for your commitment to work at our Horizon Certified Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) located at our Pine Avenue Recovery Center and Lockport Recovery Centers for at least one year. A change in scheduled hours or location of employment may impact eligibility of bonus.
Physical demands associated with this position include:
- Stationary posture with frequent standing/sitting alternation.
- Mobility between nearby worksites and within facilities.
- Mobility required involving repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements.
- Handling light duties, moving objects up to 20 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
