Position Title: Teacher Consultant

Location: East Region (Mason Consolidated and Monroe Public Schools)

Reports To: Special Education Supervisor/Regional Director

Salary/Benefits: According to Master Agreement with the MCIEA:

Available: February 18, 2026. Full-time, school year position.

Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Work schedule based on district calendar.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Instructional Consultant works collaboratively with educators, students,

and families to support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with

disabilities. This position involves providing expert guidance on special education strategies,

individual education plans (IEPs), and fostering inclusive classroom environments.

Essential Duties:

Support Classroom Teachers:

o Provide consultation and professional development for general education and

special education teachers on differentiating instruction for students with
disabilities.

o Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and
develop strategies for classroom accommodations.

o Collaborate with educators to create and modify curricula to meet the needs of
diverse learners.

IEP Development and Implementation:

o Facilitate the development, monitoring, and review of IEPs for students with
special needs.

o Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with state and federal
regulations regarding special education services.

o Ensure IEP goals and objectives are aligned with students' academic, behavioral,
and functional needs.

Data Collection and Analysis:

o Monitor student progress and collect data to evaluate the effectiveness of

interventions and accommodations.
o Use data to make recommendations for program adjustments and improvements.
o Maintain detailed records of student performance, IEP meetings, and

instructional strategies.

Support for Students with Disabilities:

o Advocate students' rights and needs within the educational system.
o Provide consultative support for students when needed, including individualized

or small group instruction, behavioral interventions, and crisis management.
o Promote inclusive practices, encouraging the full participation of students with

disabilities in school activities.

Professional Development and Training:

o Lead or participate in workshops, training sessions, and meetings for staff on
best practices in special education.

o Stay current on educational trends, special education laws, and new teaching
methods related to students with disabilities.

o Mentor and guide novice special education teachers and paraprofessionals.
o Use the CETA and other researched based strategies to identify environmental

needs for UDL.

Compliance and Legal Responsibilities:

o Ensure the school district adheres to all relevant laws and regulations regarding
special education (e.g., IDEA, ADA, Section 504).

o Assist in audits and assessments related to special education services and
support.

School-wide Support:

o Participate in school leadership teams, student support teams, or committees

related to special education services.
o Contribute to school initiatives for creating an inclusive and equitable learning

environment for all students.

May apply Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques with students.
Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Maintain regular, predictable in-person attendance.
Adhere to MCISD Guidelines and Policies.

Education:

Master's degree in Special Education, required.

Certification:

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with CI, LD, EI, or AI endorsement, required.
Ability to meet state requirements for approval as a teacher consultant for Approval in

Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cognitively Impaired, Learning Disabled or Emotionally
Impaired by the Education Division of Special Education, required.

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in special education or related field.

Experience in developing and implementing IEPs, working with diverse learners,

and providing professional development to staff.

Skills/Other:

Strong understanding of special education laws, guidelines, and best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate

effectively with teachers, parents, and administrators.

Ability to assess and analyze student needs and performance data.
Knowledge of assistive technology and other resources for students with disabilities.
Ability to apply current research and theory to instruction.
Ability to assist staff with the implementation of their job duties.
Ability to consult administration regarding the individualized needs of cognitive and/or

autistic/emotionally impaired students.

Demonstrated physical stamina necessary for assisting with lifting, moving and

restraining students up to 26 years of age.

Ability to work with individuals and groups.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Certified in crisis prevention; trainer status preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of, and initiative to work with students, staff, and

parents.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from

groups of teachers, parents and building administrators.

Technical Skills:

Ability to use a personal computer (PC) in a networked environment to utilize the Internet

and other electronic communications mechanisms such as e-mail conferencing or bulletin
boards.

Knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office (word processing,

spreadsheets, database, and presentation software), required.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in

situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule

form.
