Seeking a locum Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide day-shift coverage in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). This is a non-operating-room role focused on the perioperative and critical care management of complex cardiothoracic surgical patients — CABG, valve repair/replacement, thoracic surgery, mechanical circulatory support, and transplant patients — in the ICU setting.Shift Details:
- Day shift coverage
- Flexible scheduling: 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts (may be a mix depending on staffing needs)
- 6 Month To Start - Full-time locum coverage; specific block/duration to be confirmed with facility
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage post-operative cardiothoracic surgical patients in the ICU, including hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and titration of vasoactive/inotropic support
- Perform daily rounds, H&Ps, progress notes, and discharge planning in collaboration with the cardiothoracic surgery and critical care teams
- Manage chest tubes, arterial lines, central lines, and other invasive monitoring devices
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies (labs, imaging, echocardiograms) relevant to cardiothoracic ICU care
- Manage mechanical circulatory support devices (IABP, ECMO, VADs) in coordination with surgical/perfusion teams, as applicable to scope
- Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary ICU staff
- Respond to acute changes in patient status and participate in rapid response/code events as needed
- Provide patient and family communication regarding plan of care
Required Qualifications:
- Active NP or PA license in the state of Illinois
- Board certification (ACNP, AGACNP, or NCCPA-certified PA)
- Minimum 1–2 years of CTICU or cardiac surgery critical care experience (specify per facility requirement)
- ACLS certification required; BLS required
- Experience with invasive line management and post-cardiac surgery critical care protocols
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior locum tenens experience
- Experience with mechanical circulatory support devices
- Strong documentation and EMR proficiency
