Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented Janitor/Cleaner (Healthcare Bench / Floater Position) to join our facilities team supporting hospitals, outpatient clinics, medical offices, and other healthcare environments. This position is designated as a bench (floater) role, responsible for providing temporary and substitute coverage across multiple healthcare locations to support staffing needs related to employee sick time, vacations, callouts, leaves of absence, and short-term vacancies.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining clean, sanitary, and infection-controlled environments that support patient safety, staff well-being, and regulatory compliance. Flexibility, dependability, and the ability to adapt quickly to different healthcare settings are essential.
Pay Rate: $20.00 – $23.00 per hour (based on experience and assignment)
Key Responsibilities / Duties
- Perform routine and terminal cleaning of patient areas, exam rooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, waiting areas, and common spaces in accordance with healthcare cleaning standards.
- Provide substitute coverage at multiple hospitals and clinic locations, including assignments on short notice, to ensure uninterrupted environmental services.
- Follow established infection control protocols, including proper cleaning of high-touch surfaces and use of approved disinfectants.
- Conduct floor care activities such as sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping, waxing, and polishing in clinical and non-clinical areas.
- Perform specialized or industrial cleaning tasks as required, including deep cleaning of designated areas or equipment per site-specific procedures.
- Clean and maintain walls, windows, fixtures, furnishings, and surfaces to meet healthcare sanitation and appearance standards.
- Properly use, store, and maintain cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment in compliance with OSHA, safety data sheets (SDS), and facility policies.
- Identify and promptly report safety hazards, maintenance issues, spills, or infection control concerns to supervisors or facility management.
- Adhere to all hospital and clinic policies, including HIPAA awareness, confidentiality requirements, safety procedures, and site-specific training.
- Demonstrate flexibility in work schedules, including varying shifts, weekends, evenings, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs require.
Experience & Qualifications
- Prior janitorial or custodial experience in healthcare, hospital, clinic, or medical office settings preferred.
- Knowledge of healthcare cleaning practices, infection prevention, and proper use of disinfectants strongly preferred.
- Experience with floor care techniques, including buffing, stripping, waxing, and polishing.
- Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures and safety protocols with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in fast-paced, patient-centered environments.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred to support effective communication with staff, patients, and supervisors.
- Flexible availability, including the ability to work varied hours, multiple locations, weekends, and holidays.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to respond to substitute coverage assignments as needed.
