Correctional Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Job Duties
- Provide direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals in a correctional healthcare environment under the direction of an RN or healthcare provider.
- Perform patient assessments, collect health information, and monitor vital signs and overall health conditions.
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered, including oral, topical, and injectable medications according to facility protocols.
- Conduct medication passes, monitor medication compliance, and identify/report adverse reactions or changes in patient condition.
- Assist with sick call evaluations, triage, and follow-up care for inmate health concerns.
- Perform routine nursing procedures, including wound care, dressing changes, specimen collection, and basic treatments.
- Monitor and manage patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and other medical diagnoses.
- Provide care and monitoring for patients with mental health concerns, behavioral health needs, or substance withdrawal symptoms.
- Recognize changes in patient conditions and promptly communicate concerns to the RN, physician, or healthcare provider.
- Assist with emergency response situations, including providing first aid and basic life support as required.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, assessments, medication administration, and treatments in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Support healthcare providers during examinations, procedures, and patient care activities.
- Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, preventive healthcare, and disease management.
- Follow infection control practices, safety protocols, and correctional facility healthcare policies.
- Collaborate with RNs, physicians, mental health professionals, and correctional staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Assist with intake screenings, health histories, and ongoing monitoring of inmate health needs.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and professional nursing standards.
- Provide compassionate and respectful care while maintaining professional boundaries in a secure correctional environment.
- Ensure accurate reporting and communication regarding patient status, incidents, and healthcare concerns.
Required Qualifications:
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) license.
- Previous experience in correctional healthcare, long-term care, emergency care, behavioral health, or acute care preferred.
- Knowledge of medication administration, patient monitoring, and basic nursing procedures.
- Strong communication, organizational, and clinical assessment skills.
- Ability to work independently while following facility security and healthcare guidelines.

Pay: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour
