What This Role Is
This role is responsible for running the shop floor.
You will own getting jobs from work order to completion. Sequencing the work, staffing it, clearing obstacles, holding the standard, and making sure what comes off the line matches what was drawn.
This is a salaried, working leadership role. You will be on the floor most of the day and at a computer for the rest of it. The shop runs Monday through Friday, and you are here when the floor needs you.
The team here is damn good. These are hard workers who do the right thing, so this is not a job about riding herd on people. It is a job about removing whatever is in their way and not letting the day drift.
Right now production decisions run through the owner. This role exists to change that.
What This Role Isn't
- Not an office job with a view of the shop
- Not a role where the standard gets renegotiated job by job
- Not a role that manages customers, estimates work, or draws it
- Not a place to hide from hard work
- Not a role where "that's not my job" is an acceptable answer
The best person in this role leads from the floor, holds the line on quality, and tells us the truth about what the shop can actually do.
What You'll Own
Production Flow
- Sequence work through the shop and keep it moving
- Staff jobs and assign work to the right people
- Clear obstacles before they stall a build
- Keep the shop working the full day, every day
Conformance to Drawings
- Ensure what is produced matches what was drawn
- Catch drawing problems and report them through the proper channel
- Never solve a drawing problem quietly at the saw
- Enforce our written construction standards without exception
Quality Control
- Inspect every job before it leaves the building
- Your sign off separates our defect from jobsite damage
- Document what was inspected and when
Inventory Accuracy
- Work with our production support technician to keep counts honest
- Understand that purchasing buys against your numbers
- Bad counts either stall a job or cause us to buy the same material twice
Production Schedule
- Represent the shop in our weekly production schedule meeting
- Speak to real capacity with real numbers, not a feeling
- Protect your crew from commitments the shop cannot support
Continuous Improvement
- Run a short debrief with the shop after every job
- Identify what worked, what did not, and what changes next time
- Bring problems forward early
What You'll Do Day-to-Day
- Walk the floor and know the status of every job in the building
- Sequence and assign work to builders and machine operators
- Resolve the daily conflicts that stop work
- Inspect completed work before it ships
- Verify material counts and staged jobs
- Enforce construction standards and shop safety
- Report drawing and material issues through the proper channel
- Meet weekly on the production schedule
- Debrief completed jobs with the crew
What We're Looking For
- Three or more years in architectural woodwork, casework, or comparable made to order manufacturing
- Experience running a crew, or you are already the person on the floor everyone goes to
- Ability to read shop drawings and catch a bad one before material gets cut
- Familiarity with AWI or AWS standards, or the ability to get there quickly
- Comfort with a production schedule and a spreadsheet
- Willingness to hold a standard when it would be easier not to
- Straight talk. We would rather hear a problem early than a good explanation late.

- Custom or made to order manufacturing
- Shop lead, working foreman, or production supervision

Pay: $50,000.00 - $62,500.00 per year
