Calling all superstars! Film, Media, and Animation Teachers needed!
About: CinemaKidz is New York City’s premier film, media and animation organization. Our after school program is a hands on maker experience designed to provide children with the opportunity to explore the art of film and animation through experimentation and play. We have a staff of roughly 35 amazing teachers, many who have been with the company for several years.
The Position: We are seeking versatile, creative, responsible, and self-driven amazing Teachers who can Lead and/or Assist facilitating filmmaking and Animation after school, residencies, and elective classes throughout NYC, at various sites. CinemaKidz offers 14+ different film, media, and animation courses. Classes focus on the creative exploration of the medium, using accessible equipment for elementary and middle school children.
We hope to find someone who can join our team and bring a great deal of excitement, experience, and flexibility to the program. The most successful teachers are those who are excited to work with students on these projects, and who are very excited about creative projects and experimenting with various media formats.
Expected School Year Hours: Roughly 1.75 - 3.5 hours each day, most often between the hours of 2:30 - 5:30pm, Monday - Friday. with additional remote work, trainings, and meetings as required. CinemaKidz requires a minimum commitment of 3 consistent days/week, however priority will go to those available for 4 - 5 days/week.
A minimum of 6+ month commitment.
**Additional opportunities available on weekends/during the day based on availability, and success in the classroom
Start Date: Immediate, trainings to commence right away. Must be available to start training and shadowing immediately, with classes beginning in the new year
Location: Various locations throughout NYC & NJ, must be available and willing to travel to different sites within 1 +/- hours.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and or assist on CinemaKidz after school classes that teach the basic tenets of filmmaking, animation, or other media arts to children in grades 1 through 8.
- Follow along with the curriculum and syllabus for each class, and also bring fresh ideas to the class.
- Attend various trainings, professional development opportunities, as well as regular weekly progress meetings
- Set up and breakdown materials in preparation for the classes as needed, as well as transport of some supplies as necessary (materials transported fit into a backpack).
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds and comfortably carry up and down stairs for classes
- Stay in communication with administrative staff and leadership team before and after each class, as well as in various trainings and one on one meetings
- Upload content from class onto Google Drive in a timely manner
- Arrive on time to each scheduled shift
- Polish up any student work as needed throughout the semester/course
- Communicate regularly with CK staff, fill out progress reports and other communication forms as necessary
- Must be flexible and attentive to the needs of CK’s diverse socio-economic clients, families, and students served
- Lots of opportunity for growth and other teaching opportunities may arise for the right person
- Must be able to commit for a minimum of 6+ months
Experience:
- Must have video production, animation, and/or creative Media experience, and be willing to teach a variety of media arts courses and content
- Must have at least 1+ years experience teaching elementary/middle school aged children, and ability to work with all ages between 5 and 15 years old, and 2+ years for lead teaching
- Ability to successfully manage a group of 10 children alone
- Must have a creative eye, and understand how to make video projects from start to finish without much guidance
- Must have experience working in an after school and/or educational setting
- Must be familiar and very comfortable with various media apps, technology, and cloud based programs, especially Apple products
- Energetic, and positive demeanor, and ability to connect with children
- Must be responsible, communicative, and an independent employee who thrives in a community that fosters creativity and independence.
- Must be able to submit to and pass any background checks and/or forms as per the company and school in order to work with children.
- Must be willing to submit a medical form with TB test and immunizations within 2 weeks of start date
- Must be fully vaccinated
