American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor & Delivery position in a Level III Trauma Center's Birth Center, requiring at least 1 year of L&D experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Work in the Birth Center of a Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds
-
Unit includes 9 LDR, 2 OB OR, 2 OB PACU, 11 Level II NICU, 4-bed Peds, 20-bed Mother/Baby unit, 18-bed START perinatal addiction unit, and 3 OB ED beds (20 weeks and above)

Level II Perinatal Center serving patients 32 weeks and above

Common diagnoses include hypertension, magnesium administration, and substance abuse management, along with low-risk patients needing intermittent monitoring
-
Performs epidurals, fetal monitoring, and IV skillet procedures
-
Provides antepartum care for patients needing continued fetal monitoring
-
Handles 175-200 deliveries per month
-
Patient ratios follow AWHONN and NANN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor and 1:2 for non-active laboring patients

EMR systems used include Epic Stork and GE Centricity
-
Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
-
12-hour night shifts from 1900-0700, with rotating weekends every other week
-
No on-call requirements
-
Floats only to areas of competency, typically between L&D and Mother/Baby units, but not to the START unit
-
Schedule is created in 3-week increments
-
Active WA or compact RN license required
-
Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience required
-
Current BLS and NRP certifications required
-
Fetal monitoring certification required (AWHONN or Relia's module)
-
Strong L&D skills including cervical exams, antepartum and labor care, amnio infusion, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV insertion, and Pitocin administration
-
Post-partum experience caring for mom and baby beyond the initial 24-hour transition period, including basic breastfeeding support
-
Experience with couplet care once mother and baby are stable
-
Pyxis medication dispensing system experience required

Facility manager will conduct interviews prior to placement
-
No CNAs on the unit; support includes Surgery Techs (M-F 0600-1500), Phlebotomy, NICU team for 34 weeks or less, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy for high-risk deliveries, 24/7 Hospitalist and Laborist OBGYN, and Midwife/Family Practice Group

HUGS security system used on the unit

Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and two unit shifts covering delivery patients and C-section/triage scenarios

Annual core competencies (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.), medication exam, and unit competency exam must be completed before arrival
-
One major and one minor holiday coverage required per scheduling policy
-
RTO requests require manager approval

Scrubs are provided by the facility
