Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise, direct, and support diesel technicians and shop personnel.
- Assign and prioritize daily repair and maintenance work.
- Monitor the progress of repairs and ensure work is completed properly and efficiently.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
- Perform and oversee preventative maintenance and scheduled services.
- Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality, safety, and proper operation.
- Assist technicians with difficult or complex repairs when needed.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, parts, and preventative maintenance.
- Monitor shop inventory and coordinate parts and supplies as needed.
- Communicate with drivers and operations regarding equipment issues and repair status.
- Help determine when equipment should be repaired, taken out of service, or referred for outside repairs.
- Coordinate outside vendors and repair facilities when necessary.
- Ensure all shop equipment, tools, and work areas are properly maintained.
- Promote a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Ensure company equipment is maintained in accordance with applicable DOT and company safety requirements.
- Monitor technician productivity, workmanship, and adherence to company procedures.
- Train, coach, and mentor technicians to improve their skills and performance.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and evaluating shop employees as needed.
- Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair situations when necessary.
- Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with drivers, technicians, management, and vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment
The Shop Foreman may oversee maintenance and repairs involving:
- Class 7 and Class 8 diesel trucks
- Tractors and trailers
- Diesel engines and emissions systems
- Air brake systems
- Electrical and electronic systems
- HVAC systems
- Suspension and steering components
- Tires and wheels
- Preventative maintenance systems
- Shop and diagnostic equipment
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of heavy-duty diesel repair experience, preferably in a fleet environment.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of heavy-duty truck and diesel systems.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems.
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and DOT requirements.
- Ability to read and understand repair manuals, service information, and diagnostic data.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- CDL and/or ASE certifications are preferred but not required.

Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in a diesel truck maintenance shop.
- Exposure to dirt, grease, oils, fuels, chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working around heavy equipment.
- Must be able to safely use common shop tools and equipment.
- Occasional overtime, emergency repairs, or after-hours assistance may be required.
