The Supply inventory control clerk is the person who keeps a plant running smoothly by making sure materials, labels, and supplies are always available, accurate, and properly documented.
Direct Core Responsibilities
Inventory Tracking — Maintain accurate counts of all supplies, labels, and materials using logs, spreadsheets, or inventory software. This includes daily cycle counts, reconciling discrepancies, and monitoring usage trends.
Stock Replenishment — Identify when items are running low and reorder before shortages occur. This often involves setting minimum/maximum stock levels and forecasting needs based on production schedules.
Purchase Orders — Create, submit, and track purchase orders for supplies and labels. Communicate with vendors, follow up on late shipments, and verify order accuracy.
Receiving Duties — Inspect incoming shipments, check quantities against packing slips, and ensure items meet quality standards before adding them to inventory.
Label Management — Maintain an organized system for product labels, ensure correct versions are stocked, and coordinate with production or quality teams when label changes occur.
Data Entry — Update inventory systems in real time, record adjustments, and maintain accurate documentation for audits or compliance.
Warehouse Organization — Keep storage areas clean, labeled, and logically arranged so materials are easy to find and track.
Communication — Work closely with production, purchasing, and quality teams to anticipate needs, report shortages, and support smooth plant operations.
Reporting — Generate regular inventory reports, highlight variances, and recommend improvements to reduce waste or overstocking.
Indirect Core Responsibilities
Apparel & Supply Distribution — Hand out apparel, PPE, and other supplies to employees as needed, ensuring accurate records of what was issued.
Material Issuance Records — Distribute stock to production workers and maintain detailed logs of all materials issued to each department or individual.
This is a safety sensitive position.
