This position will be located at 1659 East Elm Street, Jefferson City, Missouri, Air Pollution Control Program, Compliance and Enforcement Section.
Responsibilities - What you’ll do
- Responsible for advising, reviewing, and approving ambient air quality analyses associated with permitting in accordance with state and federal guidance, policy, and regulations. Must stay current on all air regulations, guidance, policy, computer software, and data availability. Work closely with company representatives, consultants, and permit writers.
- Possess a thorough understanding of how the computer modeling software work, the proposed permitting project, a thorough knowledge of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), a thorough knowledge of Risk Assessment Levels (RAL) for hazardous air pollutants (HAP), the ability to interpret results from the computer modeling.
- Interpret federal guidance and regulations and stay abreast of changing regulations and be able to understand how the change affects the permitting process. A decision on whether to issue a permit is impacted significantly by the recommendation of this person.
- Responsible for making recommendations for special conditions to be included within the permit. The recommendations can include things such as stack testing requirements and air quality monitoring.
- Serves as point of contact for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), company representatives, consultants, and permit writers when dealing with air quality analysis in permitting.

- Written Communication: Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- Bachelor’s degree and 0-4 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
- Knowledge of and experience with Missouri Air Conservation regulations and the Clean Air Act.
- Background in meteorology or atmospheric science.
