Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Instructional Assistant to support students with disabilities in our educational environment. This paid position plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive classroom, assisting students with their daily activities, and ensuring they receive the necessary support to succeed academically and socially. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with disabilities and be committed to creating a positive learning experience for all learners.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to students with disabilities, assisting them with classroom activities, assignments, and daily routines.
- Offer physical assistance as needed to help students navigate the classroom environment safely and comfortably.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapt instructional materials accordingly.
- Monitor student behavior and provide positive reinforcement to promote engagement and appropriate social interactions.
- Support students in developing independence skills and fostering a respectful, inclusive classroom atmosphere.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized learning environment that meets all safety standards.
- Participate in training sessions and team meetings to stay informed about best practices in special education support.
Experience
- Prior experience working with students with disabilities is required.
- Experience providing physical assistance to special education students is essential.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and a compassionate attitude are highly valued.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to student success.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with children, individuals with disabilities, or in a caregiving role preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassion, patience, and professionalism.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with school policies.
