ABOUT SAFE HARBOR CENTER: Founded in 1991, Safe Harbor Center is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to providing services that promote security and stability for at risk families, children, and individuals. Safe Harbor serves children, families, and individuals who have been abused, abandoned or neglected, who are homeless or have run away from home, or who are otherwise at risk or feel threatened. The mission is powered by seven unique programs: Safe Harbor Children’s Shelter, Zach’s Place: Runaway & Homeless Youth Emergency Shelter, STRIVE Transitional Living Program, Street Beat, Safe Harbor Children’s Advocacy Center, the Connie Smith Rape Crisis Center, and Family Preservation. The centerpiece of our services is Safe Harbor Children’s Center, a long-term residential shelter for 24 children, ages birth to 17, that have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.
Job Title: Human Services Professional (FULL-TIME) This is NOT a remote position. Qualified candidates must be located within a 60-mile radius of Brunswick, GA.
Job Summary: The Human Services Professional (HSP) performs age-appropriate residential care services related to service planning, supervising, and ensuring that the educational, medical, emotional, and social needs of each youth in care are met. The HSP must have an understanding of the concepts of residential childcare and be able to work with young people who exhibit varying emotional and behavioral problems. In addition, this individual must be able to effectively relate to residents and parents/custodians of all social, economic, ethnic, cultural and educational backgrounds, while serving as an effective role model. Minimum Qualifications:
- Required: Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Childhood Education, Education Counseling and Psychology, or a related
- Required: Two (2) years’ experience in the field of childcare, social services, or human service delivery.
- Possession of a valid GA Driver’s License with satisfactory driving history.
- Must be able to pass a medical examination.
- Must be able to relate well and work well with other people, subordinates, children and their families, school personnel, agency personnel, professionals, public, volunteers, board members, etc.
- Must be able to work well under pressure, handle emergency situations and crisis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, the Internet, Zoom/ Microsoft Teams web-meeting platforms, and general computer use
- Must be at least 21 years of age (state childcare licensing requirement).
- Must submit to a pre‐employment, annual, random, and for cause screening to include a drug screen, criminal history, and background check through the Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) and Department of Juvenile Justice. General Responsibilities:
- Contributes to Safe Harbor Center’s mission, vision, and program philosophies by way of work product and professional behavior with both internal and external parties.Adheres to all current federal & state laws, as well as to Safe Harbor Center’s Policies and Procedures, including the safeguarding of confidential information.
- Reports immediately any suspected incidents of child abuse/ neglect to the Program Director and DFCS Child Protective Services.
Duties:
- Responsible for providing and/or coordinating ancillary and social services for the resident and communicating to staff changes in service plans.
- Must be able to monitor the residents’ needs and ensure that appropriate services are being provided and arranged for each resident.
- Assists and conduct admission planning with child, parents or guardians, or placing agency, regarding basic care, any specialized services provided and involvement of the parents or guardian or the placing agency in service planning.
- Oversee admits and discharges children from the home in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Assist with completion of school enrollment and withdrawal paperwork as required.
- Attend school conferences/IEP’s, panel reviews, MDT meetings, and other related meetings as necessary.
- Schedule/Facilitate all medical and dental appointments to ensure that the child has completed the required physical and dental examinations.
- Performs intervention services including individual coaching, group education, crisis intervention or other interventions as needed.
- Perform and implement psychosocial assessment, service and discharge plans, in coordination with the overall service plan objectives for each resident.
- Obtain information on family dynamics, background history, health history and current situation from resident facility members' placement agency and other sources.
- Assessment of resident's psychosocial function, needs, problems and strengths within the first 30 days of resident's entry into the program.
- Maintain records with all required information and release information under confidentiality rules and regulations.
- Work closely with placing agency case manager to ensure that the child, as well as the parents/family, is progressing with their individual case plans and individual service plans.
- Be available for residents individually to help them in their decision-making, planning for their future, and overall well-being.
- Maintain all resident charts and ensure all required documentation are obtained in a timely manner from placing agency.
- Update the child’s service plan as necessary along with placing agency, incorporating pertinent progress notes and data in the plan to measure attainment toward stated goals and objectives.
- Completes all monthly progress notes on each child’s progress, goals, problems, etc. as required.
- Update medication logbook monthly. Discard any unused medications per the psychiatrist and track all medications regarding needed refills.
- Make appropriate referrals to other agencies as needed via DFCS case manager.
- Provide supervisory coverage to childcare workers, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Director.

- Demonstrate the ability to be a positive role model and demonstrate patience, effective communication skills, and good judgement.
- Ability to assist residents with K-12 academic demands, meal preparation, housekeeping responsibilities, personal hygiene, grooming and other activities as needed.
- Ability to be clear headed and decisive based on the scope of the position.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively both individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to appropriately accept feedback through the supervision process thus displaying the willingness to learn, grow, and improve.
Physical:
- Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, frequent sitting, standing and walking, may be required for long periods of time; Walking up and down stairs frequently (SHCC is a two-story facility); Light Lifting (groceries, supplies, small children) up to 25 pounds.

- Work Environment: The primary place of employment is a residential group home for youth primarily ages 10-18.
- Work Hours: This is a minimum 40- hours per week position, with periodic ON-CALL scheduling

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
