Position Overview
We are seeking a highly specialized Internal Architect / Engineer – Data Center Design to lead the planning, coordination, and execution of mission-critical facilities across a multi-gigawatt development pipeline. This role is not traditional architecture—it's a deeply technical position at the intersection of design, engineering, and hyperscale client requirements.
You will serve as the in-house authority on data center design standards, working closely with development, engineering, construction, and leasing teams to ensure our assets meet the evolving needs of top-tier users including hyperscalers, AI platforms, and enterprise cloud providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Data Center Design Strategy
- Establish and maintain design standards across a portfolio of hyperscale and enterprise data center developments
- Translate client technical requirements (AWS, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, etc.) into actionable design criteria
- Technical Design Oversight
- Review and guide architectural and engineering plans with a focus on:
- High-density compute environments (AI/ML workloads)
- Redundancy (N+1, 2N, 2N+1 configurations)
- Power distribution and cooling strategies
- Ensure alignment with mission-critical uptime and resiliency standards
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with internal development, construction, and leasing teams to align design with go-to-market strategy
- Interface directly with clients’ technical teams during pre-lease and build-to-suit discussions
- Site Planning & Optimization
- Evaluate site constraints including power availability, fiber connectivity, and zoning
- Optimize building layouts for scalability, efficiency, and speed-to-market
- Innovation & Future-Proofing
- Stay ahead of trends in liquid cooling, AI-driven workloads, and evolving rack densities
- Incorporate sustainable design practices and energy-efficient solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (licensed preferred)
- 5+ years of experience, with significant exposure to data center or mission-critical design
- Deep understanding of:
- Data hall layouts and white space optimization
- HVAC systems (air-cooled, liquid cooling, immersion)
- Electrical infrastructure (UPS, generators, substations)
- Experience working with hyperscale or large enterprise clients preferred
- Ability to interpret and influence highly technical requirements
