Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Jail Nurse to provide essential healthcare services within a correctional facility. This vital role involves delivering comprehensive nursing care to inmates, ensuring their health and safety are prioritized while adhering to strict security protocols. The Jail Nurse will assess, treat, and monitor inmates’ medical conditions, coordinate with healthcare teams, and maintain accurate medical documentation. Duties
- Conduct thorough medical assessments of inmates upon intake and during ongoing care, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health history reviews.
- Administer medications, including injections, following prescribed protocols while monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Manage acute and chronic health issues such as pain management, infectious diseases, dementia care, Alzheimer's care, and mental health concerns.
- Provide emergency response and first aid for medical crises, including airway management, CPR, and trauma stabilization.
- Maintain detailed and compliant medical records; ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians, mental health professionals, and security staff to develop treatment plans tailored to individual inmate needs.
- Oversee medical supplies inventory, perform specimen collection/processing, and ensure sterile processing standards are met.
Qualifications
- Valid nursing license with current registration; experience working in correctional or detention settings is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with ICD-9/10 coding is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with compassionate caregiver communication; ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly.
- Knowledge of long-term care regulations and experience providing geriatric or memory care services is beneficial.
