Duties
- Review and interpret complex construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine material requirements and project scope.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates using tools such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam, ensuring accuracy in pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Manage project budgets by estimating costs, tracking expenses, and implementing cost control measures throughout the bidding process and project lifecycle.
- Conduct negotiations with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure favorable terms while maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Develop comprehensive proposals and bids that align with client needs and project specifications, ensuring competitive yet profitable pricing.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and construction teams to review contracts, manage risk, and ensure estimates align with project timelines and scope.
- Utilize construction estimating software like Xactimate for accurate material pricing and cost analysis from blueprints or technical drawings.
- Oversee the management of multiple projects simultaneously by coordinating estimating activities with ongoing project management efforts on-site.
Experience
- Proven experience in construction estimating or sales within the construction industry, demonstrating a strong understanding of building processes and cost management.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as PlanHub, BusinessConnect, HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, along with solid skills in interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Hands-on construction site experience that provides insight into field operations, safety standards, and project execution.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders including clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, project management principles, and cost control strategies to ensure profitable project delivery.
- Familiarity with managing projects as a construction estimator from initial bid through completion while maintaining budget integrity.
- Ability to review construction drawings thoroughly for accuracy in estimating material requirements and labor needs while managing multiple priorities efficiently.
