Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including transit buses, school buses, minivans and 15 passengers vans, to safely transport passengers of school ages and needs. Your primary focus will be ensuring passenger safety, adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations, and providing excellent customer service. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to community mobility while maintaining the highest standards of transportation safety and efficiency.
Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as 15 passenger vans, transit buses, school buses, and mini vans in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, including assistance and behavior management for individuals with special needs or disabilities.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR, first aid, emergency stop procedures, and vehicle codes.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English language skills; utilize multilingual skills when applicable to serve diverse communities.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, including checking for heavy lifting requirements and vehicle condition.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- Uphold student discipline policies when transporting school children; ensure passenger safety at all times.
- Complete accurate logs, incident reports, and shift documentation; maintain detailed records of daily operations.
- Follow all state and local commercial driving laws, including traffic laws specific to school bus driving, transit bus operation, and <PERSON> driver standards.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit operations with a strong understanding of transportation safety regulations.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, and school policy knowledge.
- Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or loading equipment safely.
- Strong behavior management skills for handling passenger conduct professionally and effectively.
- Familiarity with student discipline protocols and senior care considerations when applicable.
- Quick response capability to traffic changes or route disruptions while maintaining safety standards.
- Basic writing skills for completing reports accurately; attention to detail is essential.
- Demonstrated defensive driving techniques and commitment to transportation safety regulations.
