Join U.S.VETS, the leading nonprofit working to end veteran homelessness, as a Veteran Service Assistant. This frontline role is essential to providing daily support and ensuring a safe, respectful, and structured living environment for the veterans we serve.
Key Responsibilities

Veteran-Centered Service: Deliver daily essential services such as meals, hygiene supplies, and shelter with dignity and care.

Customer Service Excellence: Support veterans with their needs, concerns, and transitions—including move-ins and move-outs—while maintaining a client-first approach.

Conflict Resolution & De-escalation: Respond to and help prevent verbal and physical altercations; document incidents and report to site leadership promptly.

Safety & Emergency Procedures: Implement and uphold all safety protocols, including bed checks, emergency response actions, and room inspections to ensure a clean and hazard-free facility.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with clinical and residential staff to maintain a therapeutic and supportive environment.

Facility Upkeep: Assist with facility cleanliness, maintenance, inventory supply needs, and preparation for inspections.

Routine Monitoring & Documentation: Maintain logs, reports, and documentation of services, safety checks, and client interactions.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience working with veterans, individuals in recovery, or similar populations preferred.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to remain composed in high-stress situations and apply sound judgment.

Commitment to fostering a safe, sober, and respectful environment.

Basic computer literacy.

Valid driver’s license preferred (company vehicle use may require additional training and insurance eligibility).

Requirements:
- Experience with programs, client population, similar populations, or other relevant experience preferred
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with residential staff
- Must promote client-centered philosophy and skilled in creating/maintaining a sober environment
- Must be energetic, dedicated to mission and flexible
- Basic computer literacy
- Valid drivers license required. Must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course.
ADDENDUM: Additional Cleaning Duties - Weekly Cleaning of residential units and administration building, as well as common areas in the adjoining building.

Cleaning of client rooms and all common areas (personal offices not included, unless staff present) on a weekly basis to include, but not limited to:

General dusting of the entire building common areas only

All desks, tabletops and countertops to be wiped down and sanitized

All floors to be vacuumed, mopped, and swept accordingly

Trash removal all cans, utilizing dumpster on site, replenish trash bags

To include staff offices, when staff is present

General cleaning in all bathrooms to include:

Toilets, floors, sinks, mirrors, replenish supplies

Cleaning of breakrooms to include sinks, countertops, tables, trash

Cleaning of windows (INSIDE ONLY) on a monthly/as needed basis

Cleaning of baseboards and vents on an as needed basis

Sweeping of entry steps and mop as needed

Additional cleaning, sanitizing as needed in relation to COVID-19.
