Tax Manager | CPA
Location: Arlington, TX
Job Type: Full time
Compensation: $120,000 to $150,000 plus paid overtime
Industry: Public Accounting
A real route to ownership, not another vague promise about the future
A lot of firms talk about long term opportunity.
Very few can explain what that opportunity actually looks like.
This one can.
An established independent CPA firm in Arlington is hiring a Tax Manager as part of its succession planning. The firm has been serving clients for more than 30 years, has a team of around 10 to 15 people, and is led by three CPAs.
The goal is to bring in someone who can take real ownership of client relationships, help lead the team, and grow into a Partner and ownership position over time.
For a Tax Manager who has spent years running the work but has not yet been given a genuine stake in the outcome, that is a meaningful difference.
What makes this opportunity worth considering
There is a clear route toward Partner as part of the firm’s existing succession planning.
Ownership is genuinely available for the right person.
You will take responsibility for a client portfolio and become an important part of how the firm operates.
You will work in an independent firm without outside investors influencing decisions.
You will have the opportunity to mentor staff, improve workflow, and help shape the future direction of the practice.
Paid overtime during busy season means additional hours are recognized and compensated.
The firm is also open to someone bringing an existing client book, where relevant.
The kind of work you will lead
The client base is balanced across individuals and businesses, with tax remaining the main focus of the role.
You will work across 1040, Schedule C, 1120S, and 1065 clients, many of whom have long standing relationships with the firm across Arlington and the surrounding area.
There is also some general accounting and advisory support, giving you a broader understanding of each client rather than limiting the relationship to annual compliance work.
That creates a more rounded role and stronger client relationships over time.
What you will be doing
Manage and review tax work across a varied portfolio of individuals and businesses
Lead client relationships and act as a trusted point of contact
Identify planning opportunities and support clients throughout the year
Manage workflow and maintain quality during busy periods
Coach and develop junior staff
Work closely with the current CPAs on more complex matters
Contribute ideas around client service, team development, and firm operations
Take on increasing leadership responsibility as the succession plan develops
What the firm is looking for
A CPA, or someone close to completing the qualification
Strong public accounting tax experience at Tax Manager level
Confidence managing client relationships and leading a smaller team
Solid experience across individual and business tax work
Someone who values quality, accountability, and long term relationships
A professional who wants more than another Manager title
Someone genuinely interested in future Partnership and ownership
The firm may also consider someone already managing a small client book who wants a stronger platform for growth.
Who this role will suit
This is not simply a move for a slightly better title or a different desk.
It is better suited to someone who wants to become central to a firm, earn the trust of its clients and team, and eventually have a real stake in what they are helping to build.
You will need to be comfortable with responsibility and visible leadership.
In return, there is an opportunity to move beyond managing work for other people and begin building toward ownership of your own.
Why now is a smart time to explore it
You do not need to change firms in the middle of a deadline.
But the people who make the best moves often begin the conversation before they are under pressure to decide.
Starting now gives you time to understand the firm, meet the people involved, and decide whether the long term opportunity is genuinely right for you.
It also gives you the chance to settle in before the 9/15 and 10/15 deadlines return.
That can make a significant difference to how the rest of the year feels.
