Essential Development is a growing commercial construction and development company specializing in hospitality, restaurant, retail, and mixed-use projects throughout the Midwest. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager to support our General Contractor and project teams across multiple active construction projects.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys managing multiple priorities, and has strong administrative, financial, and project coordination skills.
Position Summary
The Assistant Project Manager will work directly with the General Contractor and leadership team to support the planning, execution, and successful completion of construction projects. This role will assist with scheduling, procurement, budgeting, accounting coordination, project documentation, subcontractor communication, and overall project administration.
The successful candidate must be highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing up to five projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Assist the General Contractor with daily project management activities
- Coordinate project schedules and maintain construction timelines
- Track project budgets, invoices, commitments, and cost reports
- Support procurement efforts including material orders and vendor coordination
- Maintain project documentation, contracts, permits, and change orders
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and ownership groups
- Schedule project meetings and distribute meeting minutes
- Monitor project progress and identify potential scheduling or budget concerns
- Assist with bid solicitations and proposal collection
- Support project accounting functions, including invoice review and tracking
- Prepare reports, project updates, and status summaries for leadership
- Travel to project sites as needed throughout Michigan and surrounding states
- Assist with project closeout documentation and warranty tracking
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
- Experience with budgeting, invoicing, and cost tracking preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team environment
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel
