We are looking for a hardworking candidate to fill the concrete finisher/laborer role. Concrete labor is a physically demanding construction position responsible for preparing sites, building forms, pouring, spreading, smoothing, and finishing concrete for structures like floors, curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways. Must operate machinery, install reinforcing steel (rebar), and apply sealants while working in various weather conditions.
Core Responsibilities
- Safety Adherence: Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others. This includes wearing personal protective gear, to minimize hazards. Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other tradespeople to coordinate tasks and ensure project progress.
- Site Preparation: Demo, excavation & site clean up. Establish grade & brace wooden or metal forms concrete pours.
- Reinforcement: Cutting, bending, and installing rebar or wire mesh to strengthen concrete.
- Pouring & Finishing: Signal truck drivers, guide chutes, and distribute wet concrete using rakes/shovels. Operate vibrators, screeds and finish with floats or trowels.
- Finishing Tasks: Molding expansion joints, edging, trowel/broom/stamp for desired texture. Facilitate proper curing, and apply sealants or waterproofing to hardened concrete. Assist with the removal of forms, molds, and temporary structures once concrete has set.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure efficiency and safety on the job site. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or project manager.
Requirements & Skills
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in bending/stooping positions. Lifting more than 100 pounds at a time, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Experience: High school diploma/GED and 1-3 years experience in construction related field.
- Skills: Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, concrete curing methods, basic arithmetic, blueprint reading, and power tool operation.
- Environmental Factors: Willingness to work in harsh, changing weather conditions. Must have valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and be able to operate company vehicles. Local travel within the county is required daily. Occasional out-of-town travel.
Pay: $16.00 - $26.00 per hour
