Position Summary: The primary responsibility of the Material Handler/Driver is to transport materials between Nortek and external vendors.
Schedule: 4x10 hour shifts Monday-Thursday (with overtime on Fridays as needed).
- Day Shift: 5am-3:30 pm
- Swing Shift: 4pm-2:30am
Position Responsibilities:
- Operate a forklift to safely load and unload materials onto trailers.
- Review production schedules and coordinate timely pickup of materials from vendors based on priority and operational needs.
- Operation of the vehicle in a manner consistent with reasonable practices that avoid abuse, theft, neglect or disrespect of the equipment.
- Obey all traffic laws.
- The use of seat belts and shoulder harness is mandatory for driver and passengers.
- Adhering to manufacturer’s recommendations regarding service, maintenance and inspection. Vehicles should not be operated with any defect that would prevent safe operation.
- Attention to and practice of safe driving techniques and adherence to current safety requirements.
- Restricting the use of vehicles to authorized driver.
- Reporting the occurrence of moving violations as soon as possible.
- Accurate, comprehensive and timely reporting of all accidents by an authorized driver and thefts of a company vehicle to their company supervisor.
Other Responsibilities:
- Sort all air handler bases by job, size, or designation as required. Verify each base against the bill of materials or pick list and identify any missing or incorrect parts
- Investigate missing components by checking storage locations, previous staging areas, and inventory records. Communicate any shortages or issues to lead or supervisor promptly.
- Gather and deliver all necessary materials, hardware, and components to the assembly team based on job requirements. Ensure items are complete, accurate, and ready for immediate use.
Driver Qualifications:
- Authorized employee of company, employees, spouse or significant other.
- High School or GED
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Preferably have at least one year of experience in the class of vehicle operated.
- Must meet licensing requirements.
- Will not qualify for a company vehicle if, during the last 36 months, the driver had any of the following experiences:
- Been convicted of a felony.
- Been convicted of sale, handling or use of illicit drugs.
- Has automobile insurance canceled, declined or not renewed by a company.
- Been convicted of an alcohol- or drug-related offense while driving.
- Had driver’s license suspended or revoked.
- Been convicted of three or more speeding violations or one or more other serious violations.
- Been involved in three or more chargeable accidents.
