Job Description
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Local Port Driver to transport containers and freight in and around the Port of Oakland. The ideal candidate will have experience with port operations, container transportation, and local drayage.
This is a local driving position, allowing drivers to return home regularly. We are looking for someone who is dependable, professional, safety-focused, and familiar with the Oakland port and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
- Pick up and deliver import and export containers from the Port of Oakland.
- Transport containers to local warehouses, rail yards, customer facilities, and parking yards.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, paperwork, and electronic logs.
- Communicate with dispatch regarding pickup appointments, delays, and delivery status.
- Follow all DOT, port, company, and safety regulations.
- Secure containers and equipment properly before transportation.
- Maintain professional communication with customers, dispatchers, and port personnel.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial truck-driving experience.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
- Clean and acceptable driving record.
- Experience operating tractor-trailers and hauling containers.
- Knowledge of the Port of Oakland and surrounding routes is preferred.
- Ability to complete delivery paperwork and use dispatch or electronic logging applications.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to communicate professionally.
- Must pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and driving-record reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid TWIC card preferred.
- Previous port, intermodal, or drayage experience.
- Familiarity with port terminals, appointment systems, chassis procedures, and container yards.
- Experience transporting import and export freight.
