Hospice Medical Coder - PRN/ As Needed
This position is an as-needed role that will serve as a backup to our full-time Medical Coder.

Responsibilities may include:
- Review admission, recertification, and discharge documentation for coding accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes in accordance with CMS, LCDs, Conditions of Participation (CoPs), and ACHC standards.
- Sequence diagnoses appropriately to support hospice eligibility and coverage determinations.
- Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, and interdisciplinary team members to clarify documentation and resolve coding questions.
- Ensure coding documentation supports accurate claims submission, Medicare billing requirements, and reimbursement.
- Submit coding documentation within established timeframes to prevent billing delays.
- Work closely with the Hospice Operations Coordinator and Accounting team to ensure coding-related documentation is processed timely.
- Maintain coding records, documentation, and audit trails to support compliance and accreditation reviews.
- Participate in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
- Provide education and guidance to clinical staff regarding coding standards and documentation requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal and state regulations.
Requirements for this position include:
- Current ICD-10-CM coding certification required.
- Experience with hospice coding and home health admissions preferred.
- Working knowledge of Medicare hospice billing practices and coding guidelines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other computer applications.
