Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers equipped for automobile transportation on over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Load and unload vehicles using appropriate manual handling techniques
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, planning optimal paths for timely deliveries while adhering to traffic laws
- Secure vehicles properly during transit, utilizing appropriate tie-downs, straps, or other cargo handling tools to prevent movement or damage during transport
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks and trailers, including refrigerated trailers or tankers if applicable, to identify maintenance needs or safety issues
- Document delivery details accurately, including mileage logs, delivery receipts, and incident reports in compliance with FMCSA regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery status, or any issues encountered during transit
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on automobile transportation
- Strong knowledge of logistics cargo handling procedures and truck loading/unloading techniques
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record
- Experience operating manual transmission trucks and utilizing GPS navigation systems for route planning
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, and safety protocols for truck driving
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and efficiently in various environments
- Prior route driving experience on long-distance OTR routes is highly desirable
