What you'll do:

Design and develop products, processes, systems, services or scientific applications using broad engineering concepts and research techniques

Facilitate transition of product design and enhancement to full production/delivery

Evaluate designs and products for compliance with regulatory and contractual standards in terms of material, stability and performance

Collect and analyze functional requirements of proposed products

Refine concepts, design products, plan project scope, determine and maintain schedules

Serve as project leader for production of layouts, specifications, prototype build drawings and bill of materials within timeframes needed to meet production schedules

Direct functional activities to drafters or drafting teams

Provide technical services to internal divisions, plant managers and teams in sales, engineering and manufacturing departments.

Maintain external relationships with vendors, customers, engineers and operating personnel at various companies regarding non-standard components and their developments

Recommend design improvements and material selections that optimize performance, cost efficiency, and manufacturability contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to achieve desired results
What you'll need:

B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering required

5+ years’ of proven engineering experience in procedures, administration, and design, with a strong focus on railcar systems and components

Demonstrated expertise in railcar design and application of industry best practices, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards

Comprehensive knowledge of railcar regulations and industry standards (AAR, FRA, and other governing bodies), with practical application in design and production environment

Hands on experience in structural analysis review for railcar components, ensuring accuracy, safety, and durability in engineering solutions

Background in large-scale production facilities, with direct exposure in manufacturing processes, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives (prior railcar manufacturing background highly preferred)

Exceptional communication abilities-skilled in preparing technical documentation, presenting complex concepts clearly, and collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) with ability to create detailed reports, models and presentations

Ability to multi-task / handle multiple projects of differing scale
