Job Title: General Supervisor / Laboratory Technician (PCR Laboratory)
Location: Columbus OH
Job Type: Part-time
PCR experience required – candidates without molecular experience will not be considered.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated General Supervisor / Laboratory Technician to join our clinical laboratory in Columbus, OH. Our laboratory specializes in high-complexity PCR testing along with CLIA-waived testing, supporting accurate and timely patient diagnostics.
This role combines hands-on bench work with supervisory responsibilities, making it ideal for candidates experienced in molecular diagnostics who are ready to take on leadership within a regulated clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily laboratory operations in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements
- Perform and oversee PCR workflows, including:
- Sample accessioning
- Nucleic acid extraction
- Amplification and result interpretation
- Ensure adherence to Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), and Proficiency Testing (PT) programs
- Review, verify, and release patient results
- Train, mentor, and conduct competency assessments for laboratory personnel
- Maintain documentation including SOPs, validation/verification studies, and maintenance logs
- Support inspection readiness (CLIA, COLA, CAP)
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and assay performance
Minimum Qualifications (CLIA-Compliant)
Candidates must meet CLIA requirements for General Supervisor (High Complexity Testing) through one of the following pathways:
Pathway 1 (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Medical Laboratory Science
- Microbiology
- Biology or related life science
- ≥ 1 year of high-complexity laboratory experience
Pathway 2 (Alternate CLIA Pathway)
- Associate degree in a laboratory science or equivalent education with required biology/chemistry coursework
- Meets CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel
- ≥ 2 years of laboratory training/experience in high-complexity testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in PCR / molecular diagnostics
- Familiarity with Ct values, LOD, validation studies, and contamination control
- Experience with COLA, CAP, or CLIA inspections
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience with LIS systems
