We are seeking a Lead Propane Service Technician to provide expert-level installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of residential, commercial, and agricultural propane systems. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring safety compliance, mentoring service technicians, and delivering exceptional customer service while supporting efficient daily operations.
What You’ll Do
Technical Service & Installation
- Install, repair, service, and maintain residential, commercial, and agricultural propane systems and appliances, including tanks, lines, regulators, vaporizers, and related equipment.
- Conduct pre-installation site surveys and determine optimal placement for tanks and piping systems.
- Perform system conversions, upgrades, and scheduled maintenance.
- Complete leak checks, pressure tests, and comprehensive safety inspections.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex propane system, appliance, and gas flow issues.
- Repair or replace defective equipment, including pumps, motors, compressors, and gauges.
- Ensure all installations and repairs meet required inspection and compliance standards.
Safety & Compliance
- Strictly adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including U.S. Department of Transportation, National Fire Protection Association 54, and National Fire Protection Association 58 standards.
- Complete accurate and timely work orders, service tickets, and inspection reports.
Leadership & Operations
- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to junior technicians and apprentices.
- Support the Operations Manager with scheduling, dispatching, and prioritizing service calls.
- Oversee service quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain service vehicle inventory of tools, parts, and equipment; recommend inventory adjustments as needed.
Customer Service
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding services, repairs, and recommendations.
- Educate customers on the safe operation and maintenance of propane systems and appliances.
- Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
What You BringRequired Experience & Skills
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Propane Service Technician.
- Extensive experience installing, servicing, and repairing residential and commercial propane systems and appliances.
- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 54 and NFPA 58 codes.
- Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work on-call, weekends, and flexible hours to support emergency service needs.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid New Mexico Propane Gas License required:
- LP-3S – Retail Sale of LP Gas
- LP-5 – Installation, Service, and Repair
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
