About Star-Batt
Star-Batt designs and manufactures battery and power-equipment products. We're a small, fast-moving team that takes products from concept to production through a network of domestic and overseas manufacturing partners. Because we're lean, people here own real problems end-to-end -- and they see their work ship.
The Role
We're hiring a Mechanical Engineer to own the hardware side of our products -- from CAD and design through manufacturing, testing, and continuous improvement. You'll work directly with the founder and our manufacturing partners and touch every stage of the product. This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who likes wearing multiple hats and wants their fingerprints on the whole product, not one narrow slice of it.
What You'll Do
- Design in SolidWorks -- enclosures, housings, brackets, mechanical assemblies, and thermal paths. Own the CAD models, drawings, GD&T, and BOMs.
- Drive design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and work hands-on with our domestic and overseas (China) contract manufacturers -- tooling, samples, first articles, and RFQs -- with occasional travel to domestic suppliers.
- Test and validate -- build and bring up prototypes, run design validation, and support safety/regulatory compliance.
- Sustain and improve shipping products -- engineering changes, cost-downs, quality and field issues, and keeping BOM and landed-cost accuracy tight.
- Solve problems nobody has handed you the answer to -- research, prototype, and bring options to the table.
How You Work
This role is built for a self-starter and a creative, out-of-the-box problem-solver. When you hit a problem you don't know the answer to, you go find the information you need -- and you come back with three viable solutions and a recommendation, not just a question. You're motivated to keep learning, comfortable with complex and ambiguous problems, and you don't wait to be told what to do next.
What We're Looking For
- 3-7 years of mechanical engineering experience, with a track record of real projects you took from concept to production.
- Strong SolidWorks skills -- CAD modeling, drawings, GD&T, BOMs.
- A proven, creative problem-solver who can drive complex, ambiguous problems to a recommended solution.
- Self-directed and resourceful -- finds answers independently and shows up with options + a recommendation.
- Hands-on and comfortable in a small-company environment where you own a lot and context-switch often.
- Able to work onsite at our Spirit Lake, ID facility full-time.
- Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering -- or equivalent hands-on experience.
Bonus Points (preferred, not required)
- Experience designing consumer electronics or similar high-volume products.
- Experience with overseas + domestic contract manufacturers -- RFQs, tooling, samples, DDP logistics.
- Battery / power-electronics product experience (packs, BMS, thermal management).
- Familiarity with safety/regulatory standards -- UL (e.g., UL1973/UL2054), UN38.3, or IEC.
Compensation & Benefits
- $115K-$150K base, depending on experience.
- Health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Relocation considered on a case-by-case basis.
Star-Batt is an equal-opportunity employer.
